2012 USA Volleyball Open National Championships
May 19 - June 03, 2012
Salt Palace Convention Center
Salt Lake City, UT
The Intermountain Region of USA Volleyball, along with the Utah Sports Commission and Salt Lake City Convention and Visitors Bureau, will host the USA Volleyball Open National Championships at the Calvin L. Rampton Salt Palace Convention Center May 26th - June 2nd.
The long-running event has been played ever year-- with the exception of 1943 and 1944 during the height of World War 2-- since 1928, with Salt Lake City hosting in 1972 and again in 1988. The annual tournament is one of the largest national championships of any sport played in the U.S. and is expected to bring in 550-plus teams and 6,000 players, occupying a reported 12,000 room nights. The deluge of visitors is expected to contribute $16-18 million in impact to the local economy.
"We are very pleased to bring the USA Volleyball Open National Championships to Salt Lake City in 2012," USA Volleyball Senior Director Tom Pingel said. "USA Volleyball has a very strong history of conducting successful events in the past in Salt Lake City and I'm sure the same will be true with this event. We look forward to working with the civic leaders of Salt Lake City, as well as the Intermountain Region in making the 2012 USA Volleyball Open National Championships another fabulous event."
